Anxiety

Anxiety is part of the body's natural response to stress. It can indicate a disorder when feelings of worry, fear, or unease impair a person's ability to function in social, occupational, or other meaningful ways.

Anxiety can make a person’s world smaller. It keeps people from engaging in meaningful activities that are desirable to them such as seeking a promotion, asking someone out on a date, taking a flight, driving on a highway, or answering the phone.

Causes

Risk for anxiety can run in families. There is also research that associates anxiety with stressful environments or traumatic experiences.
